Jena Six

Mychal Bell remains in jail in spite of protest and lowered charges. What will it take to get him released ? Is federal intervention needed?

GW..... I'm happy that you've started a blog. Its a good way for those of us who for one reason or another have not had a chance to call your show to share our thoughts with you.

I don't know what it will take to release Bell. Is there still a bail amount that he has been unable to pay? If so, what are Rev. Sharpton and Rev. Jackson doing to help raise money for his defense fund? I heard about David Bowie's financial donation... where are the "rich" Black folks (i.e. entertainers, athletes, etc). I just don't understand how we as a people are allowing this to continue in this way. I don't think people of other backgrounds would have responded in the same manner.

I heard Sharpton said he would go after the Prosecutors like they did in the Duke Lacrosse case. That's one way to teach those dirty DA's a lesson.

It is a disgrace what is happening to the Jena 6. However, this is what happens when we as a group do not have power. We can not look to Sharpton, Jackson, Farrakhan, the CBC, etc. Why? Because it is under their watch that we have lost sooo much power.

These people are opportunist not real leaders. They lost all credibility with me with their handling of Hurricane Katrina. They can march to Jena and protest, but they could not lead those tens of thousands of people with all that energy and Black pride to New Orleans and help out with the rebuilding efforts. They refuse to acknowledge the suffering of our people in those FEMA trailers. Can we not go the camp that is next to the Exxon
Mobile refinery plant to demand the release of over 73,000 of our people so they too can go home to rebuild? Jena is bad but the aftermath of Katrina is worse.

GW this superhighway must be stopped!I have a degree but because I want to truly educate Black children I am not allowed to teach! I am currently working on a masters degree however I am going to get my CDL in a few months. There should be a zero tolerance policy for cheap labor immigrants in the trucking industry or any industry. The trucking industry is one of the few jobs open to Black men in this country. Black people should stop buying major products and start producing and distributing our own organic foods. We should also ally with other groups of people on this issue.

CNN.com reports Nas as saying, "And to my older people who don't know who Nas is and who don't know what a street disciple is, stay outta this (expletive) conversation. We'll talk to you when we're ready. Right now, we're on a whole new movement. We're taking power from that word."

I am in no way in agreement with this, but I see where he is coming from. I don't think that the N-word should be used around company.

Also, the book, Medical Apartheid, written by Harriet Washington, speaks about the comments that the Nobel Winner Dr. Watson said regarding the intelligence of blacks. That was a major justification of the whites enslaving and experimenting on us, and more whites must speak out. The silent majority will cause distress for the loud minority!
